HC LABEL SPOTLIGHT: DOG YEARS RECORDS, ILLINOIS
“Dog Years started when I stumbled across a Telex tape duplicator at a church rummage sale. It came with almost 400 blank cassettes, and was cheap. I first started going to shows when my older brother’s friends invited me to a show. Since then I had been pretty active in going to shows in the area, had played in some bands. I had a good idea about how things worked in the scene, and wanted to do more. Around this time I had friends from a few places start up bands, and took this as my opportunity to start releasing music for them. Jump ahead 2 years to the present day, it is no longer just me. Chris started helping out in summer of 2011 when I left town for about a month, and had set up releases to be done while I was away. He knows the internet much more than me, and is constantly sending me links to new bands, Id say without Chris ¾ of the releases wouldn’t have happened. I started Dog Years out doing tape releases because I had all the things needed to do it myself, and do it for not a lot of money. Currently we have 3 7”, and 1 LP in the works to come out next year. I never really expected much from this, so I am extremely grateful that people are actually interested in what we are doing.”
